My time with the Community of Saint John in the Philippines

During my gap year between secondary school and university, I had the opportunity to spend six months living with a religious community in the suburbs of Cebu City in the Philippines. This experience was the most transformative of my life, and I hope to return someday.

During my time in the Philippines, I was responsible for teaching English, Maths and Catechism classes to local children from under-served communities. Additionally, I helped care for abandoned elderly individuals in the city and young prisoners, many of whom impacted my worldview.

My time in the Philippines provided me with a unique perspective on economic disparities among different populations. This was an opportunity that taught me not only practical skills, but also valuable social perspectives.
